Chihuahua, Mexico – Governor Maru Campos announced a restructuring of state government departments, accompanied by the implementation of new acronyms, on April 26, 2024. The changes aim to streamline operations and improve public service delivery, according to a statement released by the governor’s office.
The restructuring impacts several key areas of the state government. The former Department of Innovation and Technology is now known as SICTECH (Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Tecnologías de la Información). The Department of Rural Development, Agriculture, and Livestock has been rebranded as SADERCHI (Secretaría de Agricultura, Desarrollo Rural y ganadería del estado de Chihuahua). The Department of Education and Sports will now operate under the name SEDECHI (Secretaría de Educación y Deporte del Estado de Chihuahua). The Department of Health is now SSCH (Secretaría de Salud de Chihuahua). The Department of Public Security is now SSPCHI (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública del Estado de Chihuahua). The Department of Habitat and Natural Resources is now SEMARNATCHI (Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales del Estado de Chihuahua).
Governor Campos stated that the new acronyms are part of a broader effort to modernize the state government and enhance it’s efficiency. “These changes are not merely cosmetic,” Campos explained. “They represent a essential shift in how we approach public administration, prioritizing clarity, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of the citizens of Chihuahua.”
The announcement follows a period of review and consultation with department heads and stakeholders. The Governor’s office indicated that the changes are expected to be fully implemented within the next 30 days. Training will be provided to state employees to ensure a smooth transition.
Chihuahua, a state bordering the United States, has a population of approximately 5.5 million people. Its economy is driven by agriculture, mining, and manufacturing. The state government plays a crucial role in managing resources, providing public services, and fostering economic development.
The restructuring comes as Governor campos approaches the midpoint of her six-year term, which began in September 2022. Her administration has focused on attracting foreign investment, improving infrastructure, and addressing security concerns in the state.
