Veteran Singer Siw Malmkvist to Host SVT‘s Christmas Eve programming
Stockholm – Beloved Swedish singer Siw Malmkvist, 88, will helm SVT’s Christmas Eve television programming this year, the broadcaster announced Thursday. This marks the first time the celebrated artist will take on the role of Christmas host for Swedish television.
Malmkvist’s selection as host arrives as a welcome addition to the annual holiday tradition, offering a familiar and comforting presence for families across sweden on Christmas Eve. The announcement follows the recent release of a biographical film about her life, titled “Yes,” reigniting public interest in her decades-long career.
“I get a warm feeling over hosting on Christmas Eve,” Malmkvist shared. When initially approached, she expressed surprise, questioning, “why me?” Though, she quickly embraced the possibility upon learning it was considered a “nice and critically important job.”
Malmkvist rose to prominence in 1959 with an appearance on the popular television program Hyland’s corner and a victory at Melodifestivalen with her song “Augustin.” She has as become a household name with a string of hits including ”Wear and throw away,” “Mother is like her mother,” and “Thin slices.”
