US Singer Seeks Divorce From Former Malaysian King, Claims unknowing Marriage
Los Angeles, CA - Brittany Porter, a California-based singer, is seeking a formal divorce from Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan, Malaysia, after alleging she was unknowingly married too the former king. Porter claims the relationship rapidly deteriorated following a whirlwind courtship and a subsequent miscarriage, leaving her seeking legal recourse to end the unrecognized union.
The case highlights the complexities surrounding international marriages and the potential vulnerabilities faced by individuals entering relationships with high-profile figures. While details remain contested,Porter’s account raises questions about the validity of the marriage and the legal protections afforded to those involved in such arrangements.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Porter met Muhammad V through social media in 2018. She states that she believed she was entering a common-law marriage, unaware of the full implications of Islamic customary practices. She alleges the Sultan became distant, blocked her communication channels, and informed her of the relationship’s end via a message to her best friend.
“He was being distant with me and I was freaking out so I flew back to Malaysia – but he wasn’t there,” Porter told the Mail. “He blocked me on everything. He just texted my best friend saying it wasn’t going to work out.”
Porter claims she became pregnant during the relationship but suffered a miscarriage. “It was horrible,” she confessed.Despite the difficulties, she continued planning a wedding, traveling to California to consult with a planner, onyl to be abruptly cut off by the Sultan.
Muhammad V served as the 29th Sultan of Kelantan as 2010 and was the King of Malaysia from 2016 to 2019, when he unexpectedly abdicated the throne. He has been married twice previously: to Tengku Zubaidah binti Tengku Norudin (2004-2008) and Sultanah Nur Diana Petra (2010).His marriage to Russian beauty queen Oxana Andreevna Voevodina, known as Rihana Petra during their marriage, ended in divorce in 2019, the same year thay welcomed a son.
porter now asserts she fell victim to a pattern of behaviour exhibited by the former King. “I feel like this behavior is a pattern for him,” she said. “I fell for his trap.”
She is now pursuing a “proper divorce” and has channeled her experience into her debut single,”Oh My Gosh,” describing the process as “amazing” and “freeing.” “It’s been a healing journey for me,” she told the Mail, adding, “I am grateful for everything that happened at the end because the songs are about him.”
