LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Saints women’s soccer team secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Iona on Wednesday, achieving a program-record fifth consecutive shutout and bolstering their postseason hopes. The win marks the Saints’ continued dominance over the Gaels, extending a winning streak in the series to 2013 with a cumulative score of 43-8.
This victory is particularly notable as Siena battles for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) playoff berth. The team’s offensive explosion, led by four different goalscorers, and defensive solidity demonstrate a peak in performance at a crucial juncture of the season. The Saints have now held opponents scoreless for a remarkable 512:47, falling just 40 seconds short of the program’s all-time shutout record set in 2018.
Briana Neary spearheaded the Saints’ attack with a goal and two assists, totaling four points. Abby Daly contributed a goal and an assist for a three-point performance.Micaiah Croce scored the game-winning goal in the 19th minute, marking her second match-winning goal in consecutive contests.Catherine Rogers added her team-leading seventh goal of the season, while cate Flanagan dished out two assists, breaking a tie and becoming the program’s single-season assist leader with 11.
Cate Burns anchored the defense with four saves, contributing to the historic shutout streak. The Saints erupted with three goals in a 15-minute first-half span, taking control of the match early. Iona finished the game with a record of 6-10-3, 4-6-2 in the MAAC, while Siena continues its pursuit of a playoff position.
