New Past Anime “Those Who Inherit the Wind” Announces Star-Studded Cast, 2026 Debut
TOKYO – A new period drama anime, “Those Who Inherit the Wind,” is set to premiere in 2026, bringing the story of the Shinsengumi to life with a cast including Sakuma Daisuke (Snow Man), Yuki Kaji, and Yuuki Aoi. The project, based on the original work by Aniplex and Narii Yutaka, promises a faithful adaptation with a focus on historical accuracy and character depth.
The anime’s announcement arrives amid renewed interest in historical Japanese figures and the Shinsengumi specifically, a special police force formed in Kyoto during the late shogunate period. “Those Who Inherit the Wind” aims to capture the complexities of this era and the individuals who navigated it, offering a fresh perspective for both long-time fans and newcomers. Serialization of the comic adaptation is scheduled to begin on Twi 4 (X account @twi_yon).
Sakuma Daisuke will voice Tachikawa Jinsuke, while Yuki Kaji will portray Okita Soji. Yuuki Aoi has been cast as Koganei Hyogo. The production team includes director Kawamura Tomohiro, screenwriter Narii Yutaka, original plan cooperation from Mashiba Azuki, character design by Ebina Fumi, and music by kishida Shigeru. Animation production is a collaboration between Live2D Creative Studio and Drive.
