Jerusalem – A dollar personally given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1991 has reached its intended destination decades later, finding its way into the hands of Rabbi Liraz Tzvi halevi ben Sara Yehudis, a shliach currently undergoing recovery in Israel. The story, shared by a longtime Chabad supporter who carried the dollar for 34 years, highlights the enduring power of a Rebbe’s blessing and the unwavering spirit of those serving Am Yisrael.
The supporter recounted receiving the dollar from the Rebbe before a trip to Israel in 1991, accompanied by the instruction, “Give it in the Holy Land.” Following customary practise, a dollar of his own was given to charity in its place, while the Rebbe’s dollar was carefully preserved. For years,he awaited the right moment to fulfill the Rebbe’s directive, believing the opportunity might have passed.
That moment arrived with his meeting with Rabbi Za’ira.Deeply moved by Rabbi Za’ira’s strength, faith, and dedication to his mission despite facing significant challenges, the supporter knew he had found the appropriate recipient. Presenting the dollar and sharing its history,he witnessed Rabbi Za’ira experiance a palpable reaction, describing a sensation of goosebumps.
The act of passing on the Rebbe’s dollar felt profoundly humbling, akin to “standing on holy ground,” the supporter wrote. He felt the decades-long mission entrusted to him had reached its completion.
The timing coincided with the reading of the Torah portion “Chayei Sarah” – “The Life of Sarah” – which, despite beginning with Sarah’s passing, emphasizes that true life is measured not by years, but by impact and legacy.Rabbi Za’ira, the supporter observed, embodies this principle, radiating a “living legacy” thru his unwavering commitment and inspiring presence. Notably, the name Liraz translates to “I have light.”
The supporter requests prayers for Rabbi Liraz Tzvi HaLevi ben Sara Yehudis’s complete and immediate recovery, and for the protection of all those in Israel. He concludes with a call to emulate the spirit of Chayei Sarah, living lives of purpose and strengthening Am Yisrael.
