Peronist Alliance ‘Join Forces to Defend the Workers’ Gains Momentum in Campaign’s Final Days
BUENOS AIRES – As Argentina’s October 22nd elections approach, the Fuerza Patria alliance is intensifying its message of worker defense, rallying support under the slogan “Join forces to defend the workers.” The push comes as various factions within the Peronist coalition-including the CGT, Christianity, and the Right to the Future Movement-prepare separate commemorative events surrounding the 80th anniversary of the October 17, 1945, demonstration.
Speaking at a recent campaign event alongside fellow candidates Jimena López, Sergio palazzo, Oscar de Isasi, Hugo Moyano (son), and fernanda Miño, and Buenos Aires Minister of labor Walter Correa, candidate Taiana emphasized the need “to reiterate it, and in a stronger way.” The slogan aims to unify the diverse groups within Fuerza Patria despite planned independent observances of the historic Peronist anniversary.
The CGT is planning an event at its Azopardo headquarters on October 16th, featuring a building illumination and artistic performances streamed online, foregoing the traditional large-scale mobilization. Simultaneously, the Christianity faction is organizing a “Loyalists of Heart” caravan to the home of former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, currently under house arrest, to advocate for her freedom and ”the end of the ban on Peronism.” The Right to the Future Movement is still deciding whether to hold its own event or join the CGT’s.
Looking ahead, Governor Kicillof is slated to deliver the keynote address at a CGT Regional event in La Plata on October 20th, serving as a closing rally in the Buenos Aires province. The coordinated events, despite thier separate institution, underscore the alliance’s commitment to the “Join forces to defend the workers” message in the crucial final week of the campaign.
