Detroit Mercy men’s Basketball Bolsters Roster with Four Fall Signees
The University of Detroit Mercy men’s basketball program has added four talented players to its roster for the upcoming season: Keaton Aldridge, Greg Grays Jr., Chance Houser, and James Martin.The incoming class is expected to contribute immediately to the Titans’ horizon League campaign.
Head Coach Mike Montgomery and his staff focused on adding versatile players with proven track records. “We’re excited about this group of signees,” Montgomery said. “Each player brings a unique skillset and a winning mentality to our program.” The additions aim to build upon the program’s recent successes and continue its competitive trajectory within the Horizon league.
Keaton Aldridge * 6-3 * G * Indianapolis, Ind.* Cathedral
aldridge arrives in Detroit after a strong prep career at Cathedral High School.Last year, he averaged 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.4 steals per game. As a sophomore, he was named an IndyStar Super Sophomore and earned All-Indy Super Team High honorable Mention. He further showcased his talent over the summer, earning MVP honors at the G2 hoops Mac Jelks Invitational.
Montgomery noted, “Keaton is a player with a lot of talent and can score the basketball in a number of ways. He plays in a tough,competitive league in Indy and that will help him get ready for the Horizon League.”
Greg Grays jr. * 6-2 * G * Detroit, mich. * Brother Rice
Grays Jr., a Detroit native, joins the Titans with an impressive scoring resume, having amassed 1,410 career points and averaging 21.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists throughout his high school career. He was a First Team All-state selection as a junior, averaging 19.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, and received Honorable Mention All-State honors as a sophomore. A three-time All-conference performer and All-Area First Team selection as a junior, Grays Jr. also carries a strong basketball lineage; his father played at Penn State and UDM, leading the Titans in scoring in 2002 with 17.8 points per game.
“Greg is a dynamic scorer who has taken his game to another level in the last year,” Montgomery stated. “He has been one of the top players in the state and comes from a great Titan family where both his mom and dad are graduates.”
Chance houser * 6-6 * F * Detroit, Mich. * Mumford
Houser, also hailing from Detroit, was a Second Team All-State honoree last year, posting averages of 14.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. A two-time All-Conference selection, Houser lead Summit Academy to its first MHSAA D2 State Final game as a junior. He also excelled in AAU competition with The Family, earning recognition as a Midwest Riser with averages of 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting nearly 50.0% from the field.
“Chance continues to improve offensively and defensively every season and is coming off a great run to the state championship game,” Montgomery said. “He is athletic and will help us on both ends of the court.”
James Martin * 6-4 * G/F * Muskegon, Mich. * muskegon
Martin brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Titans, having served as a three-time team captain at Muskegon High School. He boasts career averages of 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals. A two-time All-Conference honoree, Martin was named his team’s Defensive Player of the Year last season and contributed to a highly accomplished three-year run that included a 69-9 overall record, three conference titles, and a state runner-up appearance.
“James is a player who can play and defend multiple positions and he also comes from a great program that has a winning culture and mentality,” Montgomery concluded.
