Georgia State Men’s Basketball Prepares for Mercer, upcoming Home Game
MACON, Ga. – The Georgia state Panthers men’s basketball team will open its December schedule Wednesday with a road contest against Mercer at 7:00 p.m. ET. This matchup marks the beginning of a three-game stretch for the Panthers, including a home game against Jacksonville state on December 13th, following a December 6th game at Kennesaw State.
Georgia State enters the Mercer game bolstered by strong individual performances. Sophomore Christian Beam currently ranks in the top 10 in the Sun Belt Conference in blocks, averaging 1.13 blocks per game, totaling nine blocks so far this season. Freshman Micah Tucker is a key offensive contributor, averaging 11.1 points per game and ranking second on the team with 2.1 assists per game, alongside a team-leading 12 steals.
The Panthers’ roster features a blend of experience and emerging talent. Junior Ayouba Berthe, who previously played at Minot State, brings a seasoned presence. off the bench, junior Anthony Enoh provides a scoring spark, averaging 6.0 points per game and contributing 4.7 rebounds per game – fourth-highest on the team. Junior Isaiah Sherrard adds defensive versatility with eight rebounds, three steals, and four blocks.
Georgia State also benefits from the contributions of graduate transfer James Cooper, who joins the team after appearing in 28 games during his four years at Oregon, and Jakai Newton, who averages 8.6 points per game and is second in rebounding with 5.0 per game. Newton brings Power 4 experience,having previously played at Indiana before a lower body injury. He was a highly-ranked prospect coming out of high school, listed as the 86th-best by 247Sports.
The Panthers’ bench is proving to be a significant asset,averaging 17.75 points per game,accounting for 28.2 percent of the team’s total scoring. Following the game at Mercer, Georgia state will travel to Kennesaw State on December 6th before returning home to host Jacksonville State on December 13th.
