Clondra Mourns Loss of Midwest Radio Legend, Mary Forde
Mary Forde (nee Igoe), a beloved figure in the Midlands broadcasting community and longtime supporter of local events, passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2025, at university Hospital Galway, surrounded by her family. Her death marks a notable loss for Midwest Radio and the communities it serves, where she was known for her dedication and warm presence.
Born in Killoe, Co. Longford, and with strong ties to New york, Mary’s life was one of connection and community. She is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose influence extended far beyond her professional life.Her passing will be deeply felt by her family, friends, colleagues at Midwest Radio, and the countless listeners whose lives she touched. Funeral arrangements are underway to celebrate her life and legacy.
Pre-deceased by her parents James and Molly Igoe, and her brothers Seamus, Packie and Brendan, Mary is survived by her brother Vincent (New York), her daughters Monica (Ennis) and Teresa (Galway), sons Matt (Dublin), Kevin and Brian (New York), daughters-in-law Therese and Joni, son-in-law Michael, grandchildren Justin, Dubheasa, Brianna, Olivia, Michael, Jessica, matthew, Lexi and Jadi, and great-grandchildren Rían, Layla and Séan, as well as a wide circle of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is also fondly remembered by her beloved husband Mattie, formerly of Bohaunes, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo, who predeceased her recently.
Reposing at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81) on Friday, September 5th from 6.00pm,concluding with prayers at 8.00pm.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be held in St. Brendan’s Church, Clondra on Saturday, September 6th at 10.30am, followed by cremation at Lakelands Crematorium at 4.00pm.
