Free Flu Shot Clinic Coming to Los Alamos Medical Center Sept. 27
Los Alamos, NM – Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC) will host its annual free, drive-thru flu shot clinic on saturday, September 27th, from 8 a.m. to noon. The clinic will be located in the hospital parking lot at 3917 West Road.
This year’s event expands eligibility to include all individuals aged 5 and older, a first for the clinic. High-dose vaccines will also be available for those 65 and older, while supplies last. the vaccination process will be conducted entirely drive-thru, allowing individuals to remain in their vehicles.
Last year’s clinic successfully vaccinated over 400 community members. Organizers are asking attendees not to arrive before 7:30 a.m. to avoid disrupting clinic setup, but assure the public that hundreds of doses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees should follow posted signage and instructions from clinic staff.
“Our free flu shot clinic is one of our favorite community events of the year because it is directly tied to our mission of making communities healthier,” said Tracie Stratton, CEO of Los Alamos Medical Center. “Flu vaccination is the single-best way to protect yourself and others from influenza viruses. We’re particularly pleased to be able to offer the vaccine to children age 5 years and older this year.”
While vaccination doesn’t guarantee prevention of the flu, studies demonstrate it can lessen the severity of illness if contracted. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends September and october as the optimal time frame for flu vaccination.
Certain populations are at higher risk of flu complications, including:
Children younger than 5 years old
Adults 65 and older
Pregnant women
Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities
Individuals with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, heart disease, and blood disorders.
