Lancers Fall to Varsity Blues in close Contest
TORONTO – The university of Windsor Lancers women’s hockey team suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night, November 28, at Varsity Arena. Despite a late goal, the Lancers were unable to overcome an early two-goal deficit.
The loss drops the lancers’ record as they continue their road swing through Ontario University Athletics (OUA) competition. The team now prepares for a Saturday matchup against the Brock Badgers, seeking to rebound from the setback and maintain their position in the competitive OUA standings.
Kaitlyn McKnight propelled the Varsity Blues to an early lead, scoring less than a minute into the game off a rebound during a two-on-one rush.McKnight extended Toronto’s advantage eight minutes later, finding open space in the slot for her second goal of the night.
Windsor’s Bryn Rutledge cut into the deficit early in the third period, scoring her second goal in three games with a wrist shot from the left circle, assisted by Phoebe Gao’s screen in front of the net. Despite outshooting Toronto 9-6 in the final frame, the Lancers couldn’t find the equalizer.
Rebecca Noble recorded 25 saves in the loss for Windsor, while jillian Matthews turned aside 26 shots for Toronto.
The Lancers will travel to St. Catharines, Ont., to face the Brock Badgers on Saturday, November 29, with puck drop scheduled for 6 p.m. Fans can stream the game live on oua.tv.
