CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Responds to Trump’s Attacks Following White House Ballroom Question
WASHINGTON – CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins responded to a recent social media post by former President Donald Trump, who attacked her as “stupid and nasty” after she questioned him about the administration’s bombing of alleged drug smuggling vessels off the coast of Venezuela. The exchange unfolded after Collins pressed Trump on accepting a FIFA peace prize while concurrently authorizing military action in Venezuela.
Trump defended a renovation of the White House ballroom, which has faced criticism for escalating costs, stating he is planning a structure “double the size” with “the highest level” of finishes. He claimed the project is “under budget and ahead of schedule” and “fully paid by private donations.”
Collins’ initial question regarding venezuela stemmed from concerns raised by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who alleges the U.S. military actions are motivated by the country’s vast oil reserves. The State Department has denied this claim, maintaining the Caribbean boat strikes – which have resulted in over 80 deaths – are aimed at curbing the flow of cocaine and fentanyl into the U.S.
On her Instagram Story, Collins pointedly noted, “Technically my question was about Venezuela,” highlighting the shift in focus from her original inquiry.
This is not the first instance of Trump singling out female reporters. In November, he reportedly called Bloomberg News’ Catherine Lucey “quiet piggy,” a remark defended by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as ”very frank and honest.” Trump has consistently demonstrated hostility toward the press, especially those who challenge his administration’s policies, and has favored conservative-leaning media outlets and influencers.
The exchange between Collins and Trump occured after both attended the FIFA World Cup Draw at the Kennedy Center.
