Midwest Radio Mourns the Loss of John (JT) Barrett
Ballina,Co. mayo – Midwest Radio is deeply saddened by the passing of John (JT) Barrett, a beloved figure in the station’s history and a pillar of the Ballina community. Barrett passed away peacefully at Riverside Nursing Home in Ballina, surrounded by dedicated care staff. He was a familiar voice to listeners across the region for decades.
The loss is keenly felt by Barrett’s family, friends, and colleagues at Midwest Radio, where he contributed considerably to the station’s growth and local programming. His dedication to broadcasting and community engagement leaves a lasting legacy. Barrett is survived by his wife, Catherine, and their six children: John, Grace, Michael, Annette, David, and Maura, as well as a large extended family and numerous friends.
Born in Tullaghan Duff, Geesala, Barrett was predeceased by his brothers Mike and tony, and sisters Mary and Veronica. He is remembered fondly by his brother Joe, sister-in-law Betty, sons-in-law John, Damian, and Noel, daughters-in-law Lili, Pauline, and Malsiri, and his 16 grandchildren: Aoife, Emma, eoin, Darragh, Clodagh, Fionn, Diarmuid, Niah, Cónal, Leah, michael, Conor, Asher, Jonah, Caleb, and Ava, along with many nephews and nieces.
Reposing will take place at Hiney’s Funeral Home in Crossmolina (F26 DH95) on Wednesday evening, September 10th, from 5pm to 7pm. Following this,his remains will be removed to the Church of the Assumption,Ardagh (F26 W521),for Requiem Mass on Thursday at 11:30am.Burial will then take place in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina.Those wishing to express their condolences to the Barrett family are invited to leave a message of sympathy via the link provided [link not provided in source].
