Illinois Pastor Accused of Decades of Sexual Assault
SPRINGFIELD, IL – A central Illinois pastor is facing multiple felony sexual assault charges alleging a pattern of abuse spanning years and involving at least three victims. Reverend Zachary T. Harris, 52, of the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Plains, was arrested Thursday and charged with six counts of criminal sexual assault, according to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office. The charges stem from incidents reported to authorities beginning in late 2023.
The allegations against Harris represent a critically important breach of trust within the pleasant Plains community and raise broader questions about accountability and safeguarding within religious institutions.
