Littler and Humphries too Clash in World Grand Prix Final
Leicester, England – October 11, 2024 – Luke Littler and Luke Humphries will contest the final of the BOYLE Sports world Grand Prix after both secured dominant victories in their respective semi-final matches at the Mattioli Arena on Saturday. The highly anticipated showdown promises a thrilling conclusion to the prestigious double-start tournament.
The pair’s collision course sets up a rematch of May’s Premier League final, won by Humphries, and carries important weight in the race for the world number one ranking. Littler’s impressive run to the final marks a dramatic turnaround from his first-round exit in the 2023 Matchplay and last year’s early loss at this very event, while Humphries continues his consistent form, aiming to add another major title to his growing collection.
Littler dispatched Jonny Clayton 5-1, opening with a spectacular 161 checkout and ultimately overwhelming the Welshman. Despite Clayton’s impressive finishes of 154 and 128, Littler’s crucial 140 checkout in a deciding leg of the fourth set proved pivotal. He then secured his place in the final by winning the next six legs consecutively.
“I’m very happy with the performance and the stats showed it there – both a good in and out doubles percentage,” Littler said. “That 140 was the main moment though, going in at 3-1 definitely settled me more. That 140 killed off Jonny a little – I am just really glad to get into the final.”
Humphries also secured a 5-3 win against Danny Noppert, navigating a fluctuating match with a series of strong sets. The final will be a best-of-11 sets contest, scheduled for Sunday,October 12 at 2000 BST.
“I definitely owe Luke one for the premier League, but Luke has a very good record here,” Littler added. ”Hopefully I can get the win tomorrow and then I will be on Luke’s back even more for the number one spot.”
The BOYLE Sports World Grand Prix is being broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK,through the PDC’s worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and Viaplay, and on PDCTV (excluding UK,Germany,Austria & Switzerland based subscribers).
