court Allows Streaming of Hulk Hogan Sex Tape Documentary, Film Now Available
A federal judge has denied a last-minute attempt by the Hulk hogan estate to block the release of Video Killed The Radio Star: The Untold Story Of The Hulk Hogan Sex tape Scandal, clearing the way for the documentary to stream on Apple TV, amazon Prime Video, and Google Play as of September 12. the judge ruled that the documentary’s inclusion of 38 seconds of footage from the infamous tape is protected under the fair use doctrine, citing the film’s focus extends beyond the tape itself.
The legal challenge, brought by Nick Hogan and Terry McCoy, was dismissed after the court steadfast they “lacked authority” to file the lawsuit at the time it was submitted and that the estate’s lawyers had “omitted relevant adverse case history,” including prior unsuccessful attempts to secure similar injunctions. The 150-minute documentary reframes the scandal, arguing it originated from a Tampa-based “radio war” between shock jock Bubba The Love Sponge® Clem and others, with the unauthorized publication of the video as an unintended consequence.
Producer Ian Longen stated, “Concerns raised by the Hogan estate about the documentary where misplaced. Rather of highlighting the sex tape scandal, the main point of the documentary is to expose how Hogan was used as a pawn in a Tampa-based radio war involving shock jock Bubba The Love Sponge® Clem, and the unintended consequences that followed from the unauthorized publication of the Hogan video.”
Video Killed The Radio Star delves into the media ethics and cultural impact of the scandal, tracing its roots to the early 2000s Tampa radio scene and its eventual connection to the 47th President of the United States. the film features never-before-seen interviews and archival footage. It is currently available for purchase or rental.
