Cougars Swimming & Diving Defeated by Texas A&M in First Conference Matchup
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team fell to #20 Texas A&M Saturday, marking their first conference matchup of the season. Despite several strong individual performances, the Cougars were unable to overcome the Aggies’ depth, concluding the meet wiht a loss.
The meet serves as an early-season benchmark for Houston as they navigate a challenging schedule within the Big 12 Conference. The result highlights areas for enhancement as the team prepares for upcoming road adn home competitions, including a quad-meet at LSU and the annual Phill Hansel Invitational. The Cougars are aiming to build momentum and qualify more athletes for zone cuts and national competition throughout the season.
Several Cougars delivered notable performances. Freshman maisy Woloszyn and sophomore Caroline Roelen both achieved their first zone cuts of the season in diving events. Woloszyn placed fourth in the 1-meter springboard with a score of 270.90, while Roelen finished fifth in the 3-meter springboard, recording a 287.25.
on the swimming side, sophomore Alexia Duncan earned second place in the 100-yard backstroke (53.68) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.69), adding her name to the program’s Top Ten list in both events – sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and ninth in the 200-yard backstroke.
Other strong showings included a 1:00.50 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, Benoit’s winning time of 4:51.71 in the 500-yard freestyle, Peter’s leading time of 2:12.20 in the 200-yard breaststroke,and Goupil’s 50.19 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Houston will next travel to Baton Rouge, La.,for a quad-meet against LSU,Rice and Tulane on Saturday,Nov. 8 at Noon. Following the road trip, the Cougars will host the Phill Hansel Invitational at the CRWC Natatorium from Nov. 19-21.
