HDC Group Announces Executive Shakeup, Prioritizing Youth and New Business Growth
HDC Group has initiated a significant management overhaul, replacing the CEOs of four key affiliates – including HDC Labs – and bolstering its leadership ranks with a wave of younger executives. The changes, announced on December 26th, are part of a broader effort to build a lasting growth system as the company approaches its 50th anniversary next year.
The appointments focus on strengthening HDC Group’s position in emerging sectors, notably AI, energy, port logistics, and technology-based manufacturing. Executives with specialized expertise and practical experience have been assigned to lead these critical areas.
Key leadership changes include:
* Tongyeong Eco Power: Kim Young-han has been appointed as the new CEO, tasked with overseeing the commencement of full-scale power generation and expansion of the company’s eco-friendly energy business.
* Busan Container Terminal: Jong-won Lee, bringing extensive experience in port advancement and operation, will serve as the new CEO, focusing on expanding port logistics operations.
* HDC Hyundai PCE: Sang-gyun Kim, a former engineer, has been named CEO to drive innovation in construction production technology.
* HDC Labs: Choi Seon-young has been appointed as Acting CEO.
HDC Hyundai Development Company saw a particularly significant influx of younger talent, with five out of nine new executives selected from the 3040 generation (ages 30-49). The company also emphasized strengthening female leadership through the appointment and promotion of new female executives within its technical engineering department.
the number of executives in their 40s or younger within HDC Group has doubled, rising from 6 to 12. Notably, six executives (16% of the total) were born in the 1980s.
Further demonstrating a commitment to future-focused leadership, jeong Won-seon, the second son of Chairman Chung Mong-gyu (born in 1994), was promoted to head of DXT at HDC Hyundai Development Company. He joins the company after gaining management experience at a global consulting firm, with a focus on digital transformation and future strategy.
HDC Group stated that these appointments are designed to accelerate the expansion of its future business portfolio and enhance corporate value, particularly in the areas of energy and AI technology.
