Google too Roll Out Real-Time Fraud Protection for Banking App Users,Including Potential Türkiye Launch
MOUNTAIN VIEW,CA – Google is expanding its real-time fraud protection system, initially tested in the UK,to the United States and anticipates a future rollout to countries including Türkiye. The system aims to combat increasingly sophisticated social engineering and screen sharing scams targeting mobile banking users.
The new security measures go beyond simply blocking screen sharing.Google will now also prevent users from disabling Google play Protect, installing applications from unknown sources (“sideloading”), or taking other actions that could weaken device security while they are engaged in phone calls – critical steps fraudsters often attempt to manipulate.
this expanded precaution package will trigger an automatic warning screen when users open their banking applications, designed to reduce the “panic effect” induced by scammers. Risky transactions and screen sharing attempts will be automatically blocked, and users will receive stronger protection against potential data leaks.
Google is collaborating with financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase and Cash App to bring the protection system to a wider user base, emphasizing a “collective approach to combating fraud across the ecosystem.”
Experts suggest that Android ecosystem security updates typically reach Türkiye relatively quickly. Following the completion of testing, activation of the new security feature in Türkiye is considered highly probable, given the recent surge in phone fraud, bank account takeover attempts, and social engineering attacks reported within the country. Citizens have increasingly reported receiving calls from unregistered numbers and being directed to perform banking transactions under duress.
