G Herbo Connects Life on the Streets to ‘Power Book IV: force’ Final Season
Chicago rapper G Herbo discussed the parallels between his own life experiences and the high-stakes world of Starz’s Power Book IV: Force ahead of the show’s final season premiere on November 7. In a conversation with Power 105.1’s Angela Yee, Herbo highlighted how the Power Universe has resonated within hip-hop, serving as lyrical inspiration for artists referencing characters like Ghost, Tommy, Kanan, and Tariq.
For nearly a decade, audiences have followed Tommy Egan, portrayed by joseph Sikora, navigating the criminal underworld, first in New York and now in Chicago. Herbo, whose new album Lil Herb also drops November 7, drew connections between Tommy’s relentless fight for survival and his own upbringing in “Terror Town”-the East Side of Chicago-emphasizing a shared mindset forged in challenging environments. The rapper’s insights offer a unique outlook on the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the blurred lines between the music industry and street life explored in Force.
“It gave us something to do, rap about, like metaphorically, saying songs or putting stuff in your lyrics about Ghost character, Tommy character or Kanan character, Tariq,” G Herbo shared. He further explained, “I think that’s just the game in the streets and life as well. I used to always say the rap industry, you gotta treat it like the streets. The only difference is the streets is morals and ethics. Only difference between the music industry and the streets I felt like when I first got into it is that you can’t physically do nothing to nobody. It’s the same stuff going on, betrayal. You can’t take it personal.”
Herbo also weighed in on the dynamics between Force characters Diamond and Jenard Sampson, and discussed street codes surrounding snitching, as exemplified by the character Vic flynn.
The final season of Power Book IV: Force premieres november 7 on Starz.
