FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLUK) — The Holy Family Catholic Community in Fond du Lac continued its annual Thanksgiving tradition Wednesday, providing meals to families in need. now in its fifth year, the program distributed Thanksgiving dinners to community members.
the initiative began in 2020 as a way to connect with the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has sence grown beyond its original scope, according to Director of Marketing adn Communications Sarah Razner.
“Not everyone has either food on their table, or they don’t have someone to share a meal with, or they just can’t cook a meal,” razner said. “And this is us. It is truly a joy to be able to come in and be able to offer someone that meal and hopefully, make their holiday.”
Volunteers assembled an assembly line to prepare the meals, which included sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and pumpkin and apple pie.
Thomas Cejka, a volunteer, explained his motivation for participating. “You don’t think of small communities where people need help,” he said. “medical, shelter, food, clothing. We take it for granted and it’s just a nice thing that we can help.”
Cejka added, “You’re fulfilling a need and you’re fulfilling a gap in our humanity, so to speak. To help others.”
Razner noted the consistent dedication of volunteers. “It’s really amazing to see people coming together to do that, and it’s a lot of the same faces every year, as people just love being able to come out and do it.”
