Eagles Soar to Personal Records at California Cross Country Meet
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Eastern Washington University cross country teams delivered a weekend of personal bests at the UCR Highlander Invitational on Saturday, signaling strong momentum as they approach the championship portion of their season. The Eagles demonstrated meaningful enhancement from their previous two weeks of competition, with both the men’s and women’s teams showcasing impressive performances.
Head coach chris Zeller expressed confidence in the team’s progress, stating, ”We learned a lot from the first two weeks and executed this race extremely well. We are getting fit and gaining confidence, and I love where we are! The energy and enthusiasm is super high, and I have there’s no doubt whatsoever we are going to shock some folks during championship season.” The Eagles’ performance underscores their dedication to improvement and positions them as contenders within the Big Sky Conference.
On the women’s side, Rylee Brandon led Eastern Washington with a 33rd-place finish, completing the 5k course in 21:05.2. Rhiannon Davis finished 66th, closely followed by Sara Sanders in 69th. Nattie Ruzauskas, Adrienne Root, Emma Thomlinson, and Lexi Meyer completed the scoring lineup for the Eagles.
The men’s team also saw numerous athletes achieve personal records. Eastern Washington will continue its season at the Whitman Invitational in Walla Walla, Wash.,on Saturday,Oct. 4.
