Sioux city Shuts Out Des Moines 2-0
West Des Moines, Iowa - The Des Moines Buccaneers suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Sioux City Musketeers Friday night at the midamerican Energy Company RecPlex. A pair of goals from Sioux City forward Trey Jefferis, coupled with a 24-save shutout performance by Musketeers goaltender Jack Fichthorn, secured the victory for the visitors.
The loss drops the Buccaneers to 8-9-2-3 on the season, while the Musketeers improve to 10-14-1-0. The Buccaneers, a long-standing franchise in the United States Hockey league (USHL), are dedicated to player development and have seen 54 alumni drafted into the national Hockey League, including Stanley cup champions kyle Okposo, Alex Chiasson, Trevor Lewis, Davis Drewiske, and Erik Cole.
Jefferis opened the scoring at 2:06 of the first period with a shot from the crease, giving Sioux City a 1-0 lead. He extended the Musketeers’ advantage to 2-0 at 12:55 of the second period with a partial breakaway goal. The Buccaneers were unable to respond, leaving the final score at 2-0.
Des Moines will travel to Omaha to face the Lancers Saturday night at 6:05 p.m.at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. The Buccaneers than return home to host the Waterloo Black Hawks on Tuesday, December 9, at 6:35 p.m. at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.
