Sioux ‍city Shuts ‌Out Des Moines 2-0

West Des Moines, Iowa -⁣ The Des ⁢Moines Buccaneers suffered ⁣a ‌2-0 defeat at the hands of the Sioux City​ Musketeers Friday night at ​the​ midamerican Energy Company RecPlex. A pair of goals‌ from Sioux City forward Trey​ Jefferis, coupled with⁢ a ​24-save shutout‍ performance by Musketeers ⁤goaltender ⁤Jack Fichthorn, secured⁢ the ⁤victory ‌for the visitors.

The loss drops the ‌Buccaneers to 8-9-2-3 on the season, ⁤while the Musketeers improve to 10-14-1-0. The ⁣Buccaneers, a long-standing franchise in the United States Hockey league (USHL), are dedicated⁤ to player⁣ development and ⁤have seen 54 alumni drafted‍ into the national Hockey League, including‌ Stanley cup ⁣champions kyle Okposo, ⁢Alex Chiasson, Trevor Lewis, Davis Drewiske,⁣ and Erik Cole.

Jefferis opened the scoring at 2:06 of​ the first ‍period with a shot ‍from the ⁢crease, giving ⁢Sioux ‍City⁢ a 1-0 lead. He ​extended the Musketeers’ advantage to ​2-0 at 12:55 of the ​second period with a partial breakaway goal. The Buccaneers were⁤ unable to respond, leaving the final ⁣score at 2-0.

Des Moines⁣ will travel to Omaha‍ to face ‍the⁢ Lancers Saturday night at⁣ 6:05 p.m.at Liberty⁢ First Credit Union Arena. The Buccaneers than return home to host the Waterloo Black Hawks on Tuesday, December 9, at 6:35 p.m. at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.
