## MSNBC Segment Highlights Concerns Over Trump‘s Actions and Potential National Security Risks
During a segment on *Alex Witt Reports* on MSNBC, former national security official Evelyn McClendon expressed concerns that actions taken by former President Donald Trump are diverting attention from critical national security threats. the discussion followed a recent raid on the home of John Bolton and reports of security clearances being revoked for former officials under the oversight of Tulsi Gabbard, appointed by Trump as Director of national Intelligence.
Witt directly questioned McClendon about a perceived “pattern of retribution” and its potential impact on U.S. security, asking, ”How far does this pattern of retribution go? And does it put U.S. Security perhaps at risk?”
McClendon responded emphatically, stating, “Absolutely. Donald Trump is willing to use every part of our government to go after the people who have dissented or disagreed or criticized him in any way.” She argued that this focus on perceived enemies distracts national security and intelligence professionals from their primary duties.
“All of this attention going on…going after his enemies means that our national security and intelligence professionals are not focused on what they should be focused on,” McClendon said. “And that doesn’t just put Democrats at risk. That puts our entire country at risk. It puts the president at risk.” She further asserted that this distraction leads to a failure to adequately address “threats that might be incoming or looming both in the country and outside of the country.”
The segment also touched upon other Trump administration actions, including responses to crime in Washington, D.C., and reports of potential National Guard deployments to cities like Chicago.while McClendon raised concerns about ignored threats, host Alex Witt did not request specific examples of harm to national security or details regarding potential overlooked dangers.
