Adequate rest is equally crucial. “Good sleep helps muscles recover and the body maintain adequate oxygenation levels. If a runner has problems such as sinusitis, their rest will not be restful and their performance will be affected.”

Maintaining clear airways is also paramount. Agudelo cautions against practices like menthol sprays or strong odors, which can damage nasal cilia. She emphasizes the importance of avoiding anything that compromises the natural cleansing function of the nasal passages.
