BG Area Community Bands to Present Holiday Concert on December 14
Bowling Green, OH – The BG Area Community Bands will host a free holiday concert on Sunday, December 14, at 4 p.m. in the Mileti Alumni Centre on the Bowling Green State University campus. The concert will feature a diverse program of festive arrangements performed by the band, showcasing a variety of soloists and ensemble highlights.
Lead by conductor Catherine Lewis, the bands will perform a selection of traditional and contemporary holiday pieces, including ”Gaudete” arranged by Brian Beck, and “Winter Dances” by Brian Balmages. Soloists featured throughout the concert include Howard Williams on oboe,Stephanie DeCroix on French horn,Kim Kucharski on flute,Michael Borjas on euphonium,and Mark Patton on alto sax.
The program also includes “Jingle Bells Fantasy” arranged by John Wasson, ”Ancient Carol Variants” arranged by Chris M. Bernotas with Brian Bushong on trumpet and Kim Kucharski on flute as soloists, and Leroy anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday” featuring the trumpet section: Andrew Bogan, Brian Bushong, Sara Bushong, Doug Garrison, Gary Keller, Judy Mayo, Courtney McClintock, Kyle Rohrs, jon Roode, Scott Sabin, and Lily Young.
Additional pieces on the program are “Fantasia on Greensleeves” by Ralph Vaughn Williams arranged by Douglas E. Wagner, featuring Michael Borjas on euphonium and Kim Kucharski on flute; “Heaven and Nature Ring” arranged by patrick Roszell; and “O Come O Come Emmanuel” arranged by Charles Mekealian with a large ensemble of soloists including Kim Kucharski, Howard Williams, Teresa Disbrow, Kathy Sanka, Pat Williams, Mark Patton, Wendy Headley, Lynn Zuercher, Karen kelly, Michael Borjas, and Andrew Kalmar.
The bands will also perform “Snow Business,” an arrangement of “Let it Snow” and “Winter Wonderland” by founding director William Lake, as well as arrangements of “Good King Wenceslas” by Mike Collins-Dowden and ”It’s the holiday Season” by Roger Holmes.
Due to ongoing construction,attendees are advised to enter from Poe Road and follow directions to parking on the northwest side of campus. doors open at 3:30 p.m.
