Tips to Prevent COVID-19 in Children

JAKARTA – There are many steps you can take to prevent children from contracting COVID-19 virus. One of them is by implementing health protocols recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), such as keeping hands clean.

Basically children of all ages can contracting COVID-19. However, most children who become infected are usually not as severe as adults and some do not show any symptoms. Although all children can catch COVID-19, they don’t get sick as often as adults.

Citing the article on Mayo Clinic, Monday (19/10), here are tips for preventing COVID-19 in children.

1. Keep Hands Clean
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover mouth and nose with elbows or a tissue when coughing or sneezing.

Discard used tissue and wash your hands. Avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth. Have the children wash their hands immediately after returning from outdoor activities, as well as after going to the bathroom and before eating or preparing food.

2. Practice Social Distance
Avoid close contact within 2 meters of anyone who is sick or has symptoms. Minimize trips outside the home. When you go out, leave the children at home if possible.
