Tips for attending New Years in Times Square

If you aren’t afraid of waiting for hours in the cold amid a tight crowd, then you can attend New Years Eve in Times Square! Every December 31, New York’s most famous crossroads celebrates the transition to the New Year with an American-style show.
Since 1907, a crystal sphere has descended along a pole at the top of the One Times Square building, as crowds count down the last seconds of the year. 3, 2, 1… And the new year begins with a shower of confetti and an avalanche of cries of joy! The first 60 seconds of the New Year are also greeted with thunderous fireworks. So much for the decor and the crazy atmosphere.

A matter of patience and endurance

Now, if you want to attend the event, know that it is not easy! To be as close as possible to the event and approach One Times Square, it is advisable to arrive very early. The most motivated spectators are in place from noon. And if you want to be in a great position, I recommend that you don’t arrive later than 3 p.m. This is indeed the time when car traffic is interrupted in Times Square and therefore the moment when the crowd is massed.
Then it is a matter of patience and endurance: you should know that there are no public toilets installed in the square nor street vendors. Suddenly, if you have to satisfy a pressing urge or buy a bottle of water, you will lose the good place so dearly acquired. Once in place, you must not leave your post! Fortunately, everything is done to keep the crowd patient.
From 6 p.m., the square begins to come alive with the illumination and the ascent of the crystal sphere. Several singers and groups will then follow one another on the stages installed in Times Square. Good year !
