Tonight, however, the actress is not in the leading role for once: In the film “Lone Star” she slips into the role of Bunny, the manic-depressive and football-fanatic wife of a sheriff. She plays the cartoon of the Texan with so much gusto that she has a decisive influence on the 1996 film directed by John Sayles. Meanwhile, Chris Cooper, who as Sheriff Sam Deeds persistently investigates a murder committed 40 years ago, takes on the leading role and constantly encounters new abysses of corruption and racism. The multi-layered portrait of a southern Texas frontier town was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay at the time.
