A red carpet was recently shut down because his (young) fans got too wild with him. Timothée Chalamet has become a phenomenon in just a few years. Teen idols often go for glamorous and confident roles, but the actor is in his new movie Bones and all looks like a cannibal. He thinks outside the box and that’s part of his fascination with him.

De nu 26-jarige acteur is al vroeg in zijn tienerjaren op televisie en het witte doek te bewonderen, met rollen in Homeland en Interstellar. Zijn grote doorbraak volgt in 2017 met de hoofdrol in het romantische drama Call Me By Your Name. Chalamet speelt Elio, een zeventienjarige student die verliefd wordt op de acht jaar oudere onderzoeksassistent van zijn vader. Met zijn rol wordt Chamalet als een van de jongste acteurs ooit genomineerd voor een Oscar. De film groeit uit tot een klassieker en maakt van de acteur een fenomeen.
Na zo’n doorbraak ligt het in de lijn der verwachting dat Chalamet daarna in blockbusters verschijnt. Toch kiest hij een ander pad. De acteur gaat over het algemeen voor kleinere filmproducties en heeft er totaal geen moeite mee om een bijrol te spelen. Zo is hij te zien naast Saoirse Ronan in Lady Bird en Little Women van regisseur Greta Gerwig. Ook speelde hij kleinere rollen in films als A Rainy Day in New York (Woody Allen) en The French Dispatch (Wes Anderson). In de Netflix-film Don’t Look Up met Jennifer Lawrence en Leonardo DiCaprio verschijnt Chalamet pas ver in de tweede helft van de film voor het eerst.
Chalamet wants to try everything

In 2023 he can also be seen in cinemas as chocolatier Willy Wonka in Wonka, about the young years of the book character Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Expectations for the film, in which Chalamet is seen singing and dancing for the first time, are high. Wonka is done with Paddingtondirector Paul King at the helm.
In any case, the film will be in stark contrast to the gray Bones and allvan Call me by your nameby director Luca Guadagnino, now in theaters. Why did Chalamet grab the role of the cannibal with both hands? “It thrilled me because it’s so different from the first film I did with Luca,” she says. Variety. “The foundation of the character was already there, but there was still no direction.” Guadagnino encouraged Chalamet to flesh out the character with screenwriter David Kajganich. And with this film, the actor is also connected as a producer for the first time.
Chalamet likes to keep tabs on his career. She carefully chooses how to present herself to the public, not being guided by the highest salary or the most screen time. “An artist’s dream is to try everything, you know?” says the actor, who tries to live as normal a life as possible off the film set and doesn’t express himself in interviews about his love life, for example. “Now I realize that you can lead a boring private life, while your life as an artist is extraordinary.”
