Timbers qualified for semi-finals in Orlando

The Portland Timbers secured their ticket to the semifinals of the Major League Soccer (MLS) return tournament by defeating New York City FC by a score of 3-1 on Saturday night in Orlando.

The Timbers scored two unanswered goals in the second half to eventually clinch the victory.

It was Diego Valeri, assisted by Jaroslaw Niezgoda, who scored the winning goal in the 65th minute.

Andy Polo scored the insurance goal 11 minutes later with a superbly executed long shot that completely beat goalkeeper Sean Johnson to his left.

NYCFC took the lead in the 27th minute of play on a penalty shot from Jesus Medina.

Sebastian Blanco leveled the odds just before half-time by recovering a deflected ball by the opponent in the penalty area.

On Wednesday, in the semifinals, the Timbers face the Philadelphia Union.
