San José State‘s Tim Miles Earns Southwest Minnesota State University Hall of Honor Recognition

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State University men’s basketball head coach Tim Miles has been selected for induction into the Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) Athletics Hall of Honor. The proclamation was made by SMSU earlier today, recognizing Miles as one of eight esteemed individuals comprising the Hall of Honor class of 2026.
This induction represents the highest athletic honor bestowed by SMSU, acknowledging Miles’ significant contributions and achievements during his tenure with the mustangs from 1997 to 2001. Prior to his arrival, the SMSU basketball program had experienced limited success, with onyl a single winning season in the preceding decade.
Miles dramatically transformed the program, compiling an remarkable 78-39 record over his four seasons. The pinnacle of his success came in 2001, when the Mustangs achieved a program-best 28 wins. That year, SMSU secured both the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship and the NCAA North central Regional Championship, culminating in a berth in the Division II Elite Eight.
In recognition of this remarkable turnaround, Miles was honored with both the NSIC and North Central Region Coach of the Year awards.His leadership and strategic acumen were instrumental in elevating SMSU basketball to unprecedented heights.
Currently in his fifth season leading the spartans, Coach Miles is focused on continuing the program’s upward trajectory at San José State. The team aims to qualify for postseason play for the third time in four seasons – a first in the university’s history.
