Thunderstorms. Twelve departments placed in orange vigilance by Météo France

A disturbance will ripple this Saturday, June 25, 2022 from New Aquitaine and eastern Pays de la Loire north of the Seine, maintaining overcast and often rainy weather in these regions, according to Meteo Francewhich prompted a “special vigilance” in several regions because of storms.

In their bulletin of 06 Saturday morning, the meteorologists announced orange vigilance in twelve departments because of storms Allier (03), Ardennes (08), Aube (10), Côte-d’Or (21), Loire (42), Marne (51), Haute-Marne (52), Meuse (55), Nièvre (58) , Puy-de-Dôme (63), Saône-et-Loire (71) and Yonne (89).

The bulletin provides for a “Summer stormy situation which requires particular vigilance given the risk of violent phenomena on territories already strongly impacted by previous storms”.

Reporting a “quiet situation” early in the morning, Météo France explained that“Ahead of a rainy disturbance that is circulating over the country, strong storms will be organized this afternoon and this evening between Auvergne, Burgundy, Champagne and Lorraine”.

And the area under surveillance “could evolve” during the day, especially between Lorraine and the Lyon region.

Météo France is forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours of up to 20 to 30 mm of rain in a short time, strong gusts of wind up to 100 km/h locally, hailstorms and strong electrical activity.

Hailstorms and gusts of wind

Earlier, forecasters had anticipated for the day of Saturday temporarily sustained precipitation and sometimes mixed with a thunderclap, between the north of Aquitaine, Poitou-Charentes and Center-Val-de-Loire in the morning, then between the Center and Ile-de-France in the afternoon.

In Brittany and Lower Normandy, clearings and cloudy packets carrying showers will alternate. These showers can sometimes develop into a storm on the Breton tip and on the Cotentin.

Except in Corsica where there will be temporary showers, the east and south-east of the country will benefit from a morning lull, with beautiful sunny spells from the Grand Est to the Mediterranean rim.

But in the afternoon, the weather will again become more threatening and stormy from the interior of Occitania to Auvergne, Burgundy and Champagne-Ardenne.

Along this axis, stormy precipitation will increase at the end of the day and we can again fear a few hailstorms and gusts, and especially sometimes significant accumulations, especially on the Massif Central.

This agitated weather will extend towards the northeast and the Jura at the start of the night.

Provence and the Côte d’Azur will keep sunny weather despite overflowing clouds.

Minimum temperatures will be between 9 and 13 degrees in Brittany and near the English Channel, between 16 and 20 near the Mediterranean, between 12 and 16 degrees in the rest of the country. The maximum will no longer exceed 18 to 23 degrees over a large northwestern half of the country. It will still be 24 to 28 from the German borders to the east of Auvergne, Rhône-Alpes and to the south-east, locally 30/31 in Provence.
