Throw the Pandemic Law in the trash – Daniel Rodríguez Herrera

Boris Johnson, with all his flaws and the mistakes he has made, decided that last July 19 would be the end of all restrictions associated with covid. He did so despite the fact that at that time cases and deaths were on the rise and the experts they shouted to heaven; the results have proved him right. It is not that the disease has disappeared, of course, but infections and especially deaths are at levels comparable or better not only to those of other countries that still continue with restrictions, but to those of other diseases with which we carry all the life living together, without its existence having meant limits to our personal freedoms.

I know it seems that it happened a decade ago, but the slogan was to flatten the curve, that is, that infections did not grow so much as to cause the collapse of hospitals and, with it, thousands of preventable deaths. The curve will no longer be anywhere near those figures, thanks to the fact that many have already passed the disease and vaccines. So, in these days when the Government puts on the medal that the communities have vaccinated 70% of Spaniards, it does not make sense to maintain the reductions in capacity, nor the obligations to wear a mask, nor curfews nor the multiple and increasingly ridiculous and liberticidal restrictions that the communities try to sneak, with less and less success, to the courts.

In this context, it is absurd that the main opposition party is limiting its political action to asking for a Pandemic Law that allows Administrations to react adequately in the future, without the need for states of alarm or exception and with the approval of the courts. Not because it’s a bad idea; on the contrary, it is a good idea and a necessary idea … if it was approved in the summer of 2020. Sánchez has never wanted to do it, surely to be able to transfer responsibility to the autonomous communities that his party does not govern. At some point, a rule will have to be approved for these cases and thus prevent a similar situation in the future, but it does not make sense to do so to give more tools to the communities in the current situation, when the foreseeable and desirable future passes by putting an end to all restrictions.

Isabel Díaz Ayuso obtained an overwhelming success in Madrid making the flag, first, of the defense of the Madrilenians against the PSOE of Sánchez, who came to approve a 155 against the CAM with no justification other than that of launching the candidate Illa to the Catalan elections with some success under his arm. But he also proposed, from the same campaign slogan, a model of greater individual freedom compared to that of control and restrictions. It does not seem that the rest of the PP has followed in its footsteps, despite having shown that it is not only the best policy, but the most profitable electorally. It is stupid to give Sánchez that medal focusing on the happy Pandemic Law instead of promoting, in the first place, from the rest of the autonomies that he governs, a clear leadership for freedom and against the abuses of power, which could be supported when We were all scared by the pandemic, but every day that passes they are less so.

Pedro Sánchez has been the worst president at the worst possible moment. He despised the danger and avoided taking any restrictive measures that could jeopardize a sectarian demonstration, a decision that cost thousands of lives. But no one doubts his ability to emerge even in the worst circumstances. Nobody except Pablo Casado, who seems fully willing to offer him all the life jackets available to him, in the conviction that he will inherit power in the Rajoyesque way. Mr. Casado: do us the favor of telling Ana Pastor and Núñez Feijoó to get their Pandemic Law where the sun never shines and lead the way to a Spain free of arbitrary and abusive restrictions. A free Spain of Pedro Sánchez.
