SARPSBORG (VG) Three women were stabbed in three different places in Sarpsborg on Wednesday night. One of the victims has been confirmed dead, and a suspected perpetrator has been arrested.

Three women were stabbed Wednesday night in three different places in Sarpsborg, which is located in Østfold in Viken county.
– The police received a report on Wednesday night about a stabbed woman in Sarpsborg. Shortly afterwards, we received new reports of two new stabbings in St. Nicholas gate and Oscars gate, respectively, they write in a press release at 01.28.
Just after 2 o’clock, the Eastern Police District writes in a press release that one of the victims after the stabbings has been confirmed dead. One of the other victims is critically injured, while the third is slightly injured.
According to the police, one of the victims must have recognized the perpetrator, and the person in question was arrested at an address in the center of Sarpsborg.
The police have no indications that more perpetrators are involved.
– Witness observations strengthen the theory that there is only one perpetrator, says Olav Unnestad, who is joint leader of operational services in the Eastern police district, to VG, and adds that the stabbings took place at some time interval.
– You write in the press release that one of the victims recognized the perpetrator. What kind of relationship is this?
– We do not yet know if it is a question of random victims, nor whether there is a relationship between them, Unnestad answers.

The police sent all available crews to Sarpsborg when they were notified of the incident, which they considered a “possible ongoing life-threatening incident”. They also encouraged people to stay indoors.
– We have had all available resources in place in Sarpsborg tonight, says the police task leader on the spot Roger Pettersen to VG.
He states that the police are working to investigate the stabbings.
– We are now questioning witnesses, and forensic technicians work at three different crime scenes. We will continue with it throughout the night, says the task leader.

Four witnesses VG has spoken to believe it is about one perpetrator, who went from place to place.
Two of them say that they were called by one of those who called for help. The person was indoors, and the two had to kick in the door to get inside. The perpetrator had then moved on.
A witness tells VG at 01.30 that there must have been a woman lying on the ground in Oscars gate around 23.30.
– I could see paper and blood, and it was complete chaos.
Police and an ambulance must have arrived at the scene. The witness says that there was also another incident further down the street, where there were also police and an ambulance in place.
– The police screamed and there was a lot of chaos.
The witness says that the situation is calmer now, but that there are still people and police in the street.

Armed police and several ambulances have been observed in the center of Sarpsborg.
VG has spoken to a man who witnessed the police action when he returned home from work.
– The police drove around and shouted out of the car window: “Stay inside”. They seemed very stressed, the man tells VG.
Shortly beforehand, he saw two women coming running down the street. Afterwards came a third woman who shouted: “call the police”. None of the three were injured.
One crime scene is in the parking lot across the street from the Storbyen shopping center in the center of Sarpsborg. There are forensic technicians on site and three armed police officers.
Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad writes that they have been in contact with the husband of one of the victims. He says that the perpetrator knocked on the door and entered their home. There he is said to have attacked the man’s wife.
– We sat and watched TV, then there was a knock on the door. When I opened, he tried to stab me, but I got away, the man tells the newspaper.
It was just before midnight that the police wrote on Twitter that they had received reports that several people had been stabbed in several places in Sarpsborg.
According to Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad was sent out emergency services from all over Østfold towards Sarpsborg, in addition to an air ambulance. The police in Oslo inform VG that they have also sent several patrols to the city.
On flightradar24.com you can see two ambulance helicopters that have landed at Østfold Kalnes Hospital. A Sea King helicopter has also been called out.
