Three of the five containers lost at Ameland have now been recovered | NOW

A third container from the ship Baltic Tern that lost five containers on Wednesday about 30 kilometers north of Ameland, was recovered on Sunday. According to Omrop Fryslân the container was sunk and nearly empty because it had broken in two. There were wooden pallets in the container.

The remainder of the third container was brought to the port of Terschelling in the night from Saturday to Sunday.

According to Rijkswaterstaat, the contents of the two containers that are still in the water consist of rolls of paper fiber. The search continues on Monday. Various detection methods are used to try to find out where the containers have been floated to.

Earlier this week, the first two containers were salvaged. They were damaged, but according to Rijkswaterstaat, the containers, which contained used fats, oils and acetone, did not leak

The Baltic Tern is now in the port of Rotterdam. The 162 meter long container ship sails under the flag of Cyprus and came to the port of Rotterdam via German waters. The turbulent weather was probably the cause of the cargo loss.
