Three New Supermarkets Arrive in Bushwick Supposing to Address Food Inequality | Univision 41 New York WXTV

The new FRESH supermarkets coming to Bushwick will be located at 54 Noll St., 1389 Broadway Ave, and 605 Hart Street, scattered throughout the neighborhood, yet they face several obstacles to truly serving parts of the community. As Celeste Leon, the manager of Brooklyn Community Board 4, comments in a telephone interview, “As far as I know, there is no formal mechanism to ensure that food is affordable.” Even if the supermarket arrives and sells fresh, quality food, the cost of the produce may still be an impediment to some residents being able to shop there. Another factor that can discourage or encourage residents, Celeste specifies, is the availability of parking, as many residents do their shopping by car.
