Three new boats have been located this Wednesday afternoon on the high seas off the southern coast of the province of Alicante with 43 people on board of Algerian nationality. These vessels are in addition to the other six that arrived on Tuesday.
Specifically, the first was sighted at 3.30 pm south of Alicante, on the border with the Region of Murcia, with 16 people, including four women and two minors. They say they have been adrift for three days.
Later, around 5:10 p.m., a second boat was located in front of Santa Pola, with 11 people inside, and another one in front of Torrevieja, with 16 more people.
The three vessels were towed to the Port of Alicante by Maritime Rescue and Civil Guard vessels. There, it is where the Red Cross provides the first assistance and they are also subjected to PCR tests to rule out positives for coronavirus.
These boats arrive in the south of the Valencian Community one day after six other vessels with 95 more people on board were intercepted, including five women, two of them pregnant, and ten minors. Most were of Algerian origin, although some came from Syria.
