Three more mink companies in Brabant infected with corona

Research has revealed infections at three other mink farms in Brabant with the new corona virus. In total, the virus has now been diagnosed at thirteen companies in the Netherlands, ministers Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) and Carola Schouten (Agriculture) report to the House of Representatives on Tuesday evening.

Two of the companies where new infections were found are located in Landhorst, the other is located in Volkel. It is not known how the virus ended up on mink farms. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) is still investigating this and is also in contact with the GGD about the possible testing of employees.

Since Saturday, several mink farms where corona rules have been cleared. The cabinet decided to do this because the animals can also transmit the virus to humans. At least two mink carers are almost certainly infected by sick animals. Minks therefore pose a risk for further spread to humans.

Went well
“The NVWA indicates that the clearances are going well and that the animals are handled with care,” write the ministers. “The cooperation with the personnel of the companies is good.” Two to three companies can be culled daily.

The House of Representatives will debate on Wednesday about the approach to corona infections in mink farming. The results of the research on corona infections on all mink farms in our country should be known by the end of this week. Then it is also clear how many companies have struck the virus.
