“Cinderella” Libuse Safránková died in 2021

The Czech actress Libuse Safránková, who shaped the film like no one else in the role of Cinderella, died in June 2021 at the age of 68 of complications from cancer. Safránková played in almost 150 cinema and television films, for example in “The Little Mermaid” and “The Prince and the Evening Star”. She was also a member of a chamber ensemble on the theater stage in Prague for many years. In the 1996 drama “Kolya”, which won an Oscar for best foreign film, she played the role of the singer Klara.

Ironically, in the year Libuse Safránková died, a remake of the material comes from Norway. The film with the original title “Tre nøtter til Askepott” has been available on Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video since December 20th.
