Threats other than Covid are getting more real, there are lots of naked people in Israel

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – There is a unique landscape in Israel. Hundreds of naked people wearing only white body paint walk across a stretch of desert near the Dead Sea, Sunday (17/10/2021).

Apparently this is part of the latest photography project of artist from the United States (US), Spencer Tunick (54). This photo shoot was done to highlight the phenomenon of climate change (climate change) that is happening in the world.

Reported from South China Morning Post (SCMP), Tunick visited Israel as a guest of the tourism ministry. He worked on a project to depict the ever-shrinking Dead Sea through nude subjects.

This is the third time he has done something similar. “To me, the body represents beauty, life and love,” said Tunick.

Tunick described more than 1,000 nude models as the Dead Sea. The sea water receded about one meter in the last year.

Israel and Jordan have diverted most of their upstream water for agriculture and drinking water. Meanwhile mineral extraction and evaporation accelerated by climate change are exacerbating the problem there.

He said he chose to cover the model with white paint to evoke the biblical story of Lot’s wife, who is said to have been turned into a pillar of salt. Lot’s own wife is a woman in the Bible who is said to have disobeyed God’s commandments.

Meanwhile, one of the volunteers who is a doctoral student Anna Kleiman (26) said she joined the photo shoot to bring awareness to the environmental crisis. “It feels so natural, once you take your clothes off,” she says.

Some conservative leaders in Israel oppose the Tunick project. A politician demanded the tourism ministry withdraw its sponsorship.
