Threatened privacy? You can now see through the wall via Wi-Fi

As a child, many people imagine having superpowers, one of the most popular being the ability to see through walls. It would be great to be able to know what’s going on somewhere, even if you’re outside of it.

Know that a study by the University of Carnegie Mellon, in Pennsylvania (USA), achieved encouraging results on the subject. By the way, researchers actually managed to create a way to see through walls. The most impressive thing is that they only used a router with a Wi-Fi connection.

Scientists develop way to see through walls

According to recently released information, the technology uses a system called DensePose. It is a process that maps pixels that are on the surface of the human body. In other words, it would be as if it were possible to detect the external part of a person and recreate it through mapping.

Researchers from the division of artificial intelligence of Facebook alongside scientists from London. The results of the work were published in articles on the arXiv prepress server. Anyone more curious can check what were the full observations of the article.

Technology interprets mapping data from one person or several

According to the released images, it is possible to see that the people beyond the wall were found and recognized in a way that resembles a heat map. This is because the procedure takes place by capturing a Wi-Fi signal.

The sign allows you to see through walls, as it travels around the entire environment and finds the obstacles that exist in it. This includes humans who are in a separate room which would not allow full vision.

After reading the sign Wi-Fi received back, scientists managed to know who was there and how people acted at the time. The impression is that there is a camera capable of seeing through walls.

The technology still needs to be tested again and improved before being released to the market. The application of the resource could facilitate the monitoring of security in homes, since most already have a Wi-Fi modem at home.
