New York, a megalopolis of 8.5 million people on the east coast of the United States, is highly vulnerable to the elements. Experts fear a rise in water levels of 20 to 75 cm by 2050, which would threaten the city with submersion. To deal with this, a $ 20 billion “climate resilience” plan has been put in place. In southeast Manhattan, a huge construction site is underway to erect dikes.
