LOS ANGELES, CA – Chris hemsworth, who has portrayed Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011, has stated the future of his character remains undecided following the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent interview, Hemsworth indicated that Marvel Studios is currently evaluating Thor’s role within the MCU, leaving the possibility of a Thor 5 open but unconfirmed.
Hemsworth shared his thoughts while speaking with the BBC, stating, “I don’t know. We’ll see where this one goes.” He further explained, “We are unpacking that as we speak, and figuring out where each of these characters goes. I’m just thankful for being involved with this one at Marvel, back together with a lot of the old cast, and then the new cast.It’s something I certainly love. We’ll see what happens.”
The actor’s comments arrive amidst fan speculation regarding a potential sacrificial death for Thor. while Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has expressed openness to actors reprising roles in future projects, no official announcements have been made concerning Thor’s long-term trajectory (via Deadline).
Hemsworth’s Thor is currently confirmed to appear in Avengers: doomsday, making him the sole original Avenger officially cast in the film. Marvel Studios has not yet commented on the potential inclusion of Mark Ruffalo’s hulk or Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
