This weekend, all over the North, artists’ studios are opening their doors to you.

In fact, it even starts on Friday, this story. For three days, therefore, artists from the North will be happy to welcome visitors curious to know what a workshop looks like. It’s called the Open House of Artists’ Workshops (POAA) and it’s free.

It is not a place that we enter like that, because we had seen light. We go there because we have an order to place or to buy a creation. It is most of the time by appointment, and for a specific purpose. Except one weekend a year. For three days, it is possible to enter without knocking, and to visit, admire, discuss with the artist or the craftsman who works there. These are the Open Doors of artists’ workshops, orchestrated by the Nord department, and it starts this Friday October 1st.

And in case you are in doubt, artists out there, there’s a whole shovelful of them. Nearly 440 workshops bringing together a little more than 700 creators will be wide open. So there is almost no chance that you will not find what you are looking for. Ceramists, painters, performers, sculptors, videographers, illustrators, engravers, photographers… There are many talents everywhere.

Concerts, flamenco, initiations

For example, you can go and listen to a concert at the Nouveau Lieu, in the Vauban district in Lille, or listen to flamenco while visiting the very beautiful Jouret workshops in Roubaix, or stroll in the garden-workshop of Fabrice Maes in Saint-Waast -la-Vallée in Avesnois. In fact, wherever you decide to go, there will be a workshop nearby ready to welcome you.

Just to prepare for this very nice weekend, the department has created an interactive map which allows you to see the extent of the program and to prepare your visits as well as possible. Hold, we put it right there.

Each workshop opens and closes its doors at its own time, and many have planned activities such as initiation workshops, concerts, a small drinking cup. Some will even take the opportunity to organize an exhibition opening. Beyond the little side of “pushing open the door to a place that you cannot visit the rest of the year”, it is also a great way to become aware of all the creativity that permeates the territory.

We let you go shopping among all the proposals on the POAA website. It starts on Friday throughout the department, and it lasts until Sunday. No need to reserve, but the sanitary pass may be requested in places. You have it all.
