After 30 years without workingand train arrived again to arrive at the station of San Antonio de Arecoon the Buenos Aires provincewhen performing a test ride from the neighboring Buenos Aires town of Chapel of the Lord.
As reported by Trenes Argentinos, it was a pilot test facing the tan expected return of service between both towns in the province of Buenos Aires, which, as anticipated, is scheduled for the first months of 2023, “once the railway adaptation tasks in the Matheu-Los Cardales section with the aim of improving speed, comfort and safety conditions”.
Furthermore, the route of 38 kilometers will allow to return to to connectalso after the same amount of years without working, to the Gaynor, Solís and Vagués stops with the Miter line train services that one the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires with the north of the suburbs.
The experimental trainwhich was made up of a General Motors G22 A712 locomotive and two Materfer tourist class carsdeparted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday 20, from the Capilla station and arrived in San Antonio de Areco, where it was received by a crowd at 4:00 p.m., after stopping at all intermediate stations
In order for the test trip to take place, they took clearing and weeding of the sectionas well as the comprehensive improvement of roads and of 30% of sleepersand the reconditioning of the changes of the station of San Antonio de Areco.
“For our humble association, it has great relevance, since in 2013after 6 months of working weeding by hand, we join the stations Vagues and Areco, section that was totally covered by trees and vegetation. Then we continue to Solis and Azcuenagaalways hoping to take care of the roads, to facilitate return of service”, they pointed out, from the NGO “Friends of the Victoria – Pergamino branch”, to La Opinion Pergamino.
“This trip closes a stage for us and opens other possibilities, not only for our group, but as a benefit for rail workersincreasing the capacity of the branch, and of course for the inhabitants of towns and cities”, they concluded.
Finally, from Trenes Argentinos they announced that they are working against the clock in the repair of level crossingsof the track devices (crossings and turnouts) and of the laid in the rest of the branch so that the final return of the Retiro-San Antonio de Areco train takes place within the stipulated period.
