This Saturday is the deadline for citizens to register

This Saturday ends the deadline for Guatemalan citizens to register and cast their vote in the 2023 general elections, reported the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE).

On March 25, at 12:00 p.m., registration for the electoral roll closes. Therefore, all the TSE delegations will be enabled until midnight this Saturday, explained Alejandra Chiroy, head of the Department of Citizen Registration and Elaboration of Registers, of the TSE.

On this day, several activities will be carried out in the national territory, within the framework of the closing of the electoral roll and closing of candidate registrations, which will take place on Sunday, March 26.

The activities

During this day, the TSE will promote the Beating for Guatemala campaign, which began on Friday, March 24 at 4:00 p.m. and will end on Sunday, March 26 at 12:00 p.m.

It is planned to carry out various activities in the TSE delegations and sub-delegations. The invitation is for everyone to come to our offices to register, added Chiroy.

Likewise, the offices of the National Registry of Persons (Renap) throughout the country will be open until 24:00 this Saturday, due to the closure of the electoral roll.

The attention will be from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., so that users can obtain their personal identification document, essential to register in the electoral roll and exercise the right to vote.

The more than 340 Renap offices will be empowered to provide services for issuing certifications, registrations, and DPI processing, the institution reported in a statement.

Currently, Renap reports 140,000 identification documents that are pending collection at its different headquarters.

International registration

The international registration days also extended their opening hours, with the support of the consular offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex).

Among these is the Guatemalan Consulate in San Francisco, which will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Likewise, the registration day at the Philadelphia Consulate will take place from 12:00 to 20:00. In addition, the headquarters in Lake Worth, Florida, will provide service from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Currently, there are some 3 million nationals residing in that North American country.

In this way, the sessions are aimed at compatriots who can exercise their right to vote during the general elections next June.

Elections in Guatemala

The general and deputy elections to the Central American Parliament will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023. The president and vice president will be elected for a non-extendable period of four years.

If no presidential ticket obtained at least half plus one of the valid votes cast, there would be a second round.

The two lists that have reached the highest number of votes in the first elections will participate. The ballot that obtains in its favor at least half plus one of the valid votes will win the election.
