This production car has a top speed of over 530 kilometers per hour | NOW

The SSC Tuatara will go down in the books as the (for the time being) fastest production car ever. SSC North America reports that the October 10 record attempt has been approved. The average speed over two runs is set at 508.72 kilometers per hour.

The SSC Tuatara has been stepped on its tail on a closed section of the Nevada State Highway. This was done under the watchful eye of the official Guinness World Record jury.

As usual, the car had to do two runs on the route: one outward and one back. One time a top speed of 484.52 kilometers per hour was measured, the other time one of 532.93 kilometers per hour. That brings the official record top speed to an average of 508.72 kilometers per hour.

The SSC Tuatara also took the record for the highest speed ever driven on public roads with 532.93 kilometers per hour.

The American hypercar ejects Sweden’s Koenigsegg Agera RS by a wide margin from the top spot. That model reached an average top speed of 447.19 kilometers per hour in the same place in 2017.

The SSC Tuatara will cost 1.36 million euros and only 100 units will be built. The car is powered by a 1,350 hp V8 engine. With special petrol you can get 1,750 hp.
