This November 2 begins a heating assistance program for low-income families – Telemundo New York (47)

New York State residents who cannot afford their home heating bills have a federal aid program whose enrollment begins this Monday, November 2.

The program is also available in New Jersey and Connecticut.

The main goal of the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is to prevent the elderly and low-income families from getting cold during the winter season due to non-payment.

Eligible New Yorkers can apply for the program starting Tuesday, November 2.

The Human Resources Administration is the agency in charge of providing federal aid in the state.

The program helps to heat your home with any of these systems:

  • Electricity
  • Natural gas
  • Petroleum
  • Coal
  • Propane
  • Wood / Wood Pellets
  • Kerosene

Who is eligible for HEAP?

  • You and your family members if they are United States citizens, non-citizen residents, or qualified aliens.
  • You must provide a valid social security number for each household member.
  • You benefit if you get help from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance, or Supplemental Security Income.

You can meet the HEAP requirements even if:

  • He owns a home.
  • You pay for heat as part of your rent.
